Teaching Portfolio

This portfolio highlights some of my best work and experiences from my time at Illinois State University. These are the material and lessons that I will apply as an educator in the real world.

Art 201

PAL 1

Cassidy Lynne Photography Workshop

Description: For my PAL 1 I watched a Facebook Live event were photographer Cassidy Lynne talked about her work as a photographer and also went over camera information and settings in a workshop. She talked about shooting in Manual and how to properly expose pictures. As someone who loves photography and plans to do it more often this was a very helpful and informative workshop to participate in.

Rational: This workshop was used to further my photography and art education.

PAL 2

Description: For my PAL 2 I participated LHS Alumnus Art Exhibit at the Lemont Center for the Arts. I was contacted back in July that my former art teacher wanted to put together a show with pieces from former Lemont High School students. He convinced me to add something and because I couldn't pick between them I submitted two print making pieces I created in September - December 2020.

River Flowing - December - 2020 -

Copper Plate Etching Print

Rational: It was a fun experience to see my work presented in a local community gallery and I really enjoyed seeing former class mates works. I believe community engagement in the arts is very important so it was great to be involved even after moving out of the area for school.

Evidence: See Above

High Road School of Bloomington

This semester I was placed along with a classmates, at the High Road School of Bloomington. This is a special needs school and we were placed in a elementary level classroom for students with behavioral problems. We were there a total of 4 days, 2 hours each day. We came in right after Lunch and Recess, when the students were starting Math and then moved into Art. We learned a lot about teaching and the biggest take away was that you need to have patients more than anything when working with students with special needs.

Class Projects

Warm Up Project

Description: For this project we were asked to create a class warm up before we started class. For my warm up I had the class create a simple outline of a shape, for example a tree, a flower, a house, or a planet. They would then have 15 minutes to go around their surroundings and "color in" their shape using anything around them BUT art supplies. They could glue or tape their pieces of what they found to their paper or just arrange nicely.

Rational: We then went around as a class and talked about everyone's very different drawings and coloring ideas. The point of the exercise is to show others that anything can be used to create art!

Add to Nature Project

Description: For this project we were asked to add something to the nature around us. I teamed up with a classmate for this project because we both had similar ideas of what we wanted to do. Using a fallen branch we covered it in tin foil and put it back with the tree it came off of. We then cut out silhouettes of birds that were added to the piece.

Rational: It was meant to symbolize nature and the idea of technology coming together in Nature.

Hands of Art

Description: This project asked us to create a piece of art inspired by a interview we had with a former teacher. I did the interview with my elementary school art teacher. We talked about how she she enjoyed teaching and the ideas behind her projects.

Rational: The piece is meant to symbolize my journey through art. How my art as a child was a lot of plants and nature and now it is much more realism and human form focused. The hands bringing a new sophistication to my art style.
